Duck Hunt 2013

10,000 Birds

So as many of my loyal readers know, I have a very mixed relationship with vagrants and the chasing thereof. Nevertheless, when a Baikal Teal was reported by the illustrious Radd Icenoggle just outside Missoula, I couldn’t very well ignore the siren call.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Second of February 2021)

10,000 Birds

Apparently, this winter warrior has hunted the same farm field from the same vantage point for a couple of weeks now. Before Saturday Corey had only seen two in Queens ever, one in 2013 and one in 2015. Corey got out both mornings of the weekend, but his best outing by far was at Breezy Point on Saturday morning. It was strange to hear it here in Cyprus. The first birds return from their wintering grounds in Madagascar in mid April, so the birds we saw had only just arrived.

Where Are You Birding This Final Weekend of March 2013

10,000 Birds

We won’t be leaving town until after the weekend, but plan to celebrate Easter the way we always do: egg hunt, baskets, and a nice hike. Best Bird of the Weekend (Third of October 2013)

10,000 Birds

He was very pleased to see his first ever Rough-legged Hawk in Queens, a dark-morph bird hunting over the old landfill. That’s his third new bird in Queens in less than a month! The picture (which is not as nice as the Field Sparrow shot) is below. How about you?
