If you remember, SeaWorld Orlando had been caring for two baby hawksbill turtles that were rescued. They have now been returned to the sea off the coast of Florida! We are excited about this update to a story we brought to you in April. What great news!

Orphaned by her mother, the female calf arrived at the park’s rehabilitation center on July 24 after being rescued from the waters of Daytona Beach, Fla. The animal was transported to SeaWorld by the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. SeaWorld is the global leader in the rescue and rehabilitation of manatees.

Nosey the African elephant is with Liebling Family circus in Florida, right now they are in Mount Dora, this outfit violates animal welfare regulations on a regular basis. I have wildlife/nonwildlife rescue paraphernalia in my car. In case you haven't guessed, it is the relocation of a fresh (or not) carcass, usually with entrails spilling out, to a place more hospitable for the buzzards and hawks who evidently at least in South Florida do not judge the speed of oncoming traffic very well.

We were told that Marco, one of the rescued chimpanzees, does a dance during thunderstorms during which he looks like he’s in a trance. I called Dr. Erica Miller from Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research in Delaware for some advice. She verified the bird’s identity and told me that the Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary in Indian Shores, Florida was one of the few places equipped to handle this species.
