If you do happen to see one way up there in the canopy, since it’s more like watching a dark bug flying around than admiring the shifting colors of a dark velvet chocolate hummingbird, the Snowcap experience deserves to be enjoyed at ground level. The site is just down the road from the Rainforest Aerial Tram.

The first stop was along a narrow dirt track adjacent to some farming land. Unbothered by our presence, we eventually crawled away from the pair and retreated to a safe distance where we could gather our wits and comfortably marvel at the magical experience we all just shared. In Kangding, there is a rather opulent bird hide – two stories, solid construction, spacious, lots of glass, a separate paved parking lot, though mysteriously (and as far as I can tell from my experience of living in China for almost 20 years, not indicative of fundamentally different physical needs of Chinese people) missing a bathroom.
