I was given my first real field guide to the birds of Europe by my parents, a guide beyond the species found at backyard feeders and city ponds. Yes, in the face of all the human tragedy the Cold War caused it may seem a miniscule aspect, but to a young boy who was passionate about birds, it wasn’t. This made me truly sad.

The Blue Whistling Thrush is presumably named for its loud human-like whistling, and possibly for being blue. One would think that for a species as common in Europe as the Grey-headed Woodpecker , the HBW would spend some effort to update the species entry. The White-cheeked Partridge is classified as Near Threatened. A worrying trend.

Kitsissunnguit is relatively easy to get to for humans and is only a 1­2 hour boat trip away from the city Aasiaat. The Arctic terns are very enduring and have the longest bird migration from their way across the Atlantic Sea to western Europe and along the west coast of Africa to the Antarctic waters.
