The Hidden Qualities of House Sparrows

10,000 Birds

To us on the traditional side of the Atlantic, they’ll always belong to the family Iznogoudae , the birds who want to become warblers instead of the warblers. I therefore decided to counter this month’s heinous wood-warbler attack on my retina by choosing the good old trusty House Sparrow as the topic of my May post.

Birding Lake Kerkini, Greece: Three Lazy Days

10,000 Birds

Lake Kerkini National Park in the north of Greece is the very best birding area in the Balkan Peninsula and definitely among the top ten hotspots of Europe. Wakkerstroom, South Africa: It’s a Lark

10,000 Birds

On the drive I had picked up the flamboyant Red-collared and Long-tailed Widowbirds , extraordinary members of the weaver family who’s ridiculous tails make them easy to spot even from a moving car. I did see a Greater-striped Swallow and a host of Capes – a Cape Sparrow , Cape Canary and best of all a Cape Longclaw.

First Outbreak of Usutu Virus in Germany

10,000 Birds

But I have been sick with different kinds and forms of cold since the beginning of December with no interruption, and so has my entire family. Species that were apparently less affected were Corvids, pigeons/doves, the Paridae, sparrows, warblers, and Black Redstarts. Okay, I meant to write an entertaining post. I honestly did.
