Who’s watching whom?

Last Monday, I collected Jamaican Nettletree seeds. In this case, the bird that came to investigate was a lovely male Berylline Hummingbird. Look to the right… A bit more to the center… There, just right. Seeds sprout, cuttings root, and apparently moribund plants suddenly produce surprising growth spurts.

To the right are superorder (-imorphae) and higher unranked names. Order names are according to (36, 37) (SM6).

Stuck in the middle (of the AOU/COS meeting)

Especially happily that the meeting was held at the Palmer House Hilton, right near my office, so that I was able to spend my morning volunteering and still put in a full day at work.). Months prior, a call for volunteers had gone out to local birders, and I happily signed up for a few shifts. Oh, if I didn’t have a day job!).

The practice gained wider publicity after the animal rights group PETA said earlier this month that 1 of its agents spent eight months working undercover at University of Utah research facilities. I always thought shorebirds had to accumulate huge fat deposits for their amazing annual journeys.
