They are also quite catholic (sorry, I really like this word) in their prey selection, feeding on 17 different species of fish and prawn in the study cited above.

We had a pair of Brahminy Kites positioned rather nicely on beach debris as they considered their next fishing trip out onto the reef. They are extremely good at flying low and collecting fish from just below the surface, but the shorebirds still feel threatened by them and they do sometimes take them.

Previously common at its only known site, Lake Aloatra, into the 1930’s, the introduction of numerous exotic fish species and human disturbance led to massive population declines.
