We waited with baited breath wondering what would emerge from the obstructing grass and after 3 minutes or so, a very proud young Leopard appeared with a massive and freshly dead African Wild Cat in her jaws. The killing of other predators eliminates competition for prey and at the same time also provides calories, so is doubly beneficial.

Quantico Military Base is really behaving cruelly when it comes to the feral cats on its base. If they are not adoptable, oh well, kill them. I learned of the trip right as it had been delayed and made a vow that I would be on that ship. When the base was built and managed by the South African government, the mice were found to be a minor nuisance so five cats were brought in to manage the mice population at the base. The cruise staff seemed utterly confused by us.

To the Editor: Soon after I read Gary Steiner’s article, my wife asked me to kill a spider, which I did. We kill so many living creatures when we build a house, construct a road, drive down that road or just walk on a path.
