Just look at the energy that goes into washing a single pelican. Then we walked over to the aviaries to see the Brown Pelicans. Buff-banded Rail There were only four Australian Pelicans in the area that we could see and they spent most of the hours that we were in the hide busy trying to find food. A Little Black Cormorant seemed to be a lot more successful than the Australian Pelicans at finding small fish.

A dam on a station can be the only water supply for many birds and animals and is always worth stopping and checking out. We were surprised to find four Australian Pelicans in what appeared to be the middle of nowhere, but they appeared to be able to feed in the dam and relax on the muddy edges. We were intrigued to see the Cockburn Range, which is the magnificent range that you pass through to get to the Pentecost River and it really is spectacular.

It is now very hot and dry inland and the temperature does not drop much at night, so you go to bed early and get up early like the animals and birds. To the right of the shelter there were Brolga coming in to drink and feed on the lotus flower roots and a Black-necked Stork and Australian Pelican flew in during our visit.
