Birds of Costa Rica by Dyer and N. G. Howell

And I remember what I told him, based on many recent field guide trends: Coming from them, it will be a good book, but it will be nowhere near the user-friendliness of “Birds of Costa Rica” by Garrigues and Dean from 2014. Now I can hear you screaming: but there are over 900 species!

While this post isn’t entirely following that trend, it loosely is. The other species mentioned here with a similar distribution is the tiny Olivaceous Woodcreeper.

A Few Highlights from the Annual Bird Count at Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Costa Rica

An uncommon species in Costa Rica, it was in a brushy area that reminded me of its breeding grounds. Only two of us got a glimpse but that was enough to add it to our long list of species for the day. 171 Species. Speaking of bird lists, our’s topped out at a crazy 171 species. Agami Heron. Yellow-tailed Oriole.
