While having somebody else raise your chicks like an attractive strategy to me, it is not without dangers. The rather elegant-looking Tiger Shrike also mostly feeds on insects but was not kind enough to let me take a video or photo of this (the species thinks that such recordings may result in a negative public image).

There have been very few occasions that I have encountered anybody else in the reserve, but I have encountered two Tiger Snakes. I raised my binoculars and there was one huge male Koala relaxing in the fork of the tall tree. The area is very hilly and there are numerous walking trails and mountain bike trails. Rufous Fantail.

There was a Gartered Trogon right above me, and one cooperative Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth on a cecropia tree, raising its head to smile at us. In a rock-garden in the middle of the river, one Fasciated Tiger-Heron was fishing, with both Amazon and Green Kingfishers nearby. A group (maybe 4-5 ex.)

The grass and other vegetation had been slashed recently, which was a relief after yet another Tiger Snake encounter this past week whilst walking alone. Whilst observing the Southern Emu-wrens a White-fronted Chat flew into view and landed on some raised vegetation! A little “Christmas wish” too-Gang-gangs please!

A tin yellow tiger is staring at us from the Melghat Tiger Reserve gates, as the narrow tarmac road winds through teak forest ( Tectona grandis ) along the hillside. From the next curve in the road, I can see the cows grazing deep in the valley: “If I was a tiger, I would check my prey from here.” Humbly, we approach on foot.

The Asian Koel is a cuckoo species and thus freed from the obligation to raise its own chicks (though the birds like to refer to themselves as brood parasites, which sounds a bit less obviously selfish). In Singapore, Common Redshanks mostly drink Tiger Beer. I agree that the throat is white.

As she continued her monologue about these cats, the Wildcat cautiously walked in our direction, never taking its eyes off of us, stiff-legged, ears motionless, striped like a standard “tiger” domestic cat but entirely in grays. I once knew a guy who kept and raised cats. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals.

Not a bad name and a good reason to show this species again. Sounds a bit like inbreeding to me, but the bird I saw had only one head, so it should be ok.

Despite claims to the contrary, the Tiger Shrike was not named after a German tank. Not many people may know this, but there is a feline related to the domestic cat that is also named tiger – that one is the namesake of the Tiger Shrike. She said no, it was just that nobody else ever wanted to use that color).

Seriously, Panama raises the art of under-communication to new, deplorable heights. Rufescent Tiger-Heron. Let’s be honest: driving around Panama sucks. The third shrike seen in Shanghai this month was the Tiger Shrike. I guess in terms of probability Common Snipe is the best best, but who knows … Deep in their hearts, Cuckoo species probably know that their way of raising (or rather, not raising) kids is wrong and morally repulsive (you should hear Ron DeSantis talk about this).
