Peregrines Recovered and a Wind Farm is No Threat

Or so says biologist Mitch Taylor about a proposed wind farm in Ontario. While the fact that Peregrine Falcons are much more numerous then they were at their nadir is undisputed it seems to this blogger that building wind farms in areas that could do them harm is not a good idea. The Lezírias de Vila Franca de Xira (often and erroneously named Ponta de Erva after the most southerly tip) are an extensively farmed area in the north of the estuary. The whole estuary is world class with pasture for fighting bulls, rice fields, mudflats, cork oak forests, salt pans and open water.

Urban Nature Persists in San Joaquin, Heredia, Costa Rica, May 4th, 2021

Known as the Crested Bobwhite , this small quail persists in any number of weedy fields, even lives on some coffee farms. Red-billed Pigeons and Yellow-green Vireos sing and join a morning chorus of Rufous-naped and Cabanis’s Wrens , White-tipped Dove , and the hooting of Lesson’s Motmots.

Weird Geese

I am going to make a big assumption and put it to you that it migrated north during the summer and has returned to the farm for the winter, picking up a flock along the way and leading them back here. It has pink legs and its bill is orange with pink on the upper mandible, towards the tip.
