Over the next few days, I found increasing numbers, goldfinches, juncos, white-throated sparrows. I was shocked when I found the first body, a female Towhee. I hoped it was an anomaly. Were they always there and I just never noticed? There are far fewer photographs of dead birds than I expected.

Seaside Sparrows were singing on both sides and occasionally popped up to give us a view before diving deep back into the Spartina grass, hopefully getting ready to nest. Seaside Sparrow. In the mean time, a family group of Black-throated Magpie-Jays were frolicking in the breeze high over the dry valley, showing off their exorbitantly long tail streamers. Based on even more recent recordings, it seems that the birds in Costa Rica can probably be placed in the Mangrove Rail group. Growing up in central Oregon, allowed me to experience such a diverse amount of habitat, and the wildlife that resides there. This small group of Pronghorn Antelope were right at the refuge entrance.
