Fortunately, late June is the right season for the locally brewed snake-cold Vergina lager in the deepest shade by some gull-filled beach. Soon after it, singing Black-headed Bunting awaited me on a wire at the right, with two Woodchat Shrikes in the bush at the left-hand side of the road.

One Common Raven is disappearing towards its nest among the branches of the poplar plantation, only to reappear a few minutes later to give a good chase – aerial acrobatics included – to its first neighbour, the White-tailed Eagle which breeds in the vicinity. The water is misty-golden and the fishes are all glossy in the early morning sun.

When discussing this topic for local media, I often say that because of their White-tailed Eagles , the Scottish island of Mull makes 2 million pounds per year from birders alone. By the end of a day, the best bird was the White-tailed Eagle that caught and ate a fish right in front of us – a species they have seen in the UK only once.

The boat Captain got us right in close. When were visiting Smoo cave, this one was right in the cave entrance. I gave up on visiting the cave, and just watched this bird washing, preening and then jumping right in, and catch this small flat fish. The show stopper was his Eagle-owl.
