They were to be deployed to Ground Zero with 200 other members of New Jersey Task Force 1, including structural engineers and medical workers, as well as other search-and-rescue people.

No dog is happier to be rescued. Yup, I was rescued in Africa. Poor countries with lots of trash on the streets and no spay/neuter clinics definitely have more street dogs. Without being rescued, how long do dogs survive on the streets? When you rescue a street dog, you stop that cycle. You can save a life.

It’s definitely a mini because the boat ride only lasts for an hour. We also saw these guys, told the crew of the ferry, and the coast guard zoomed out to rescue them. However, since you might see shearwaters, storm-petrels, a jaeger, Sulids, and who knows what else, it does have birding mojo. It was pretty quiet otherwise.

We were told that Marco, one of the rescued chimpanzees, does a dance during thunderstorms during which he looks like he’s in a trance. I called Dr. Erica Miller from Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research in Delaware for some advice. I told him to bring me the bird, and while he was en route, I prepared a suitable enclosure.

A tow truck had rescued a four-wheel drive and camper trailer, so not every vehicle completes the journey successfully. The vehicles were crossing twice, because everybody crossed it and then once they had they would decide to do it again and film it! That appears to be part of the challenge!

the rescued White-tailed Tropicbird from Rensselaer County South Polar Skua was another species that didn’t always weather the storm well. A definite Long-tailed Jaeger was spotted from Playland Park in Rye, Westchester County. It was captured but by the time it was handed off to a rehabilitator it had already perished.

but a friend who volunteers for a rescue group told me of a greyhound event around the corner from my house. I definitely don't think adding any more creatures of any kind to the house would be a good idea. The growing little human in the house was basically taught to stay far away from dogs and respect their space. And she does.
