The Varied Tit is a rare species in Shanghai – this was the first time I ever saw one, even though it is relatively common further North in China. Shanghaibirding reports that the species was seen in Shanghai in 2012, so it is not the first time but still a rare event for Shanghai birders. Or built a wall around it.

We did have the good fortune of finding an individually marked Bar-tailed Godwit that was marked in Yalu Jiang Nature Reserve in China last April 15th and was last seen there on May 11th 2012. Sadly we did see a lot of road kill and no doubt a result of people driving at night. It appears to work very well and the birds were relaxed.

Judging from the facial expression of this White-shouldered Starling , I would rather not have an annoyed bird of this species as a roommate.
