Clinal and individual variation make delineation of races somewhat difficult; proposed race turcomana (E Turkestan) is treated as a synonym of nominate, and castaneothorax (NE China) as a synonym of suschkini. My cats think both taste similar, so maybe the two species should be lumped anyway.

Of course, I need to pretend not to brag about it, but the HBW page on the species still uses the photo of a China-based German photographer as its main illustration. There is also the usual article about the first sighting of the species at a new location. How exciting. It is actually much better than the photos shown in this post.

Disgusting to read about , but there are people in China who are just as outraged at cat eating. Kudos to the many people in China that do care.

Sometimes an article has a couple of the above, as in the case of " Chinese Legal Experts Call for a Ban on Eating Cats and Dogs." Let's deconstruct: Legal experts in China are proposing a ban on the eating of dogs and cats. And I'm sure it will be claimed that what is done to the dogs and cats is necessary and isn't brutal.

Collared Scops Owl – A Cat Head Eagle. For a German living in China, bird names have some additional complexities. The Chinese name is Huitouwu, or “Grey-headed Bunting” – point for China, in my opinion. Helpful when talking to Chinese birders. Fairy Pitta: the 8-color bird.

As a consequence of frequently walking around in Shanghai, I have a fairly large number of cats in my home – picked up as kittens left on their own on the rather uninviting streets of the city. However, despite this large number, I never had to stoop down as low as naming any cat “zhongmao” (“middle cat”).

" Dog Days in China " is a small piece with no gruesome slideshow. However I cannot see a rational argument for saying eating dogs or cats is barbaric while eating pork or beef is fine.
