Feral Pigeons World Wide

10,000 Birds

With binoculars around my neck, I am leaving home, wondering which will be the first species on my year list. On a parking lot, I pass by an invisible bird and continue to my local patch of the Ada Huja Danube Riverbank , where my first bird becomes the Rook. Ornithology, as well as birding, deals with wild birds.

An Open Letter to Outdoor/Feral Cat Supporters

10,000 Birds

Dear Outdoor Cat Owners/Feral Cat Supporters, Does the photo above sicken you? I have been a wild bird rehabilitator for 25 years. I was at the Blue Heron Wetlands in Titusville, Florida, during the Space Coast Birding and Wildlife Festival hoping to connect with a Purple Gallinule that the field trip I co-led with Laura Erickson failed to find. Then I saw a pair of birds, the pair pictured above, and I suddenly had a dilemma on my hands.

Feral Cats in American Cities

10,000 Birds

The other day, Minneapolis, Minnesota passed a feral cat ordinance. So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. From the Star Tribune : Feral cats win a round at Minneapolis City Hall. This got me wondering what other cities were doing.
