Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of 2020)

10,000 Birds

Rather than belabor the obvious, I’ll just point out that the global pandemic may have spawned a new wave of birders, but collectively we’ve seen far fewer species of birds. As I’m not traveling these days, I’ve been spending lots of time with my local birds. It was easily his Best Bird of the Weekend.

Varied Sittellas at Langi Crossing

10,000 Birds

They are very distinct in flight due to their white wings being clearly visible and size wise there is no other bird similar. I always seem to hear some of the smaller shriller sounding birds, which Grant does not. So, whilst we get older and start to struggle to hear the birds they can still hear us!

Birding Shanghai in March 2023

10,000 Birds

Chinese Penduline T**s are not particularly woke birds. Low-effort Warbling

10,000 Birds

Here in Trinidad, we routinely experience several of these migrants – most of these birds surely pass by unrecorded as not everyone is a birder and not all birders are huge fans of suffering from Warbler Neck. The rain eventually subsided, and a couple birds hopped into view. One in particular, caught my eye.

Some Hokkaido Winter Passerines

10,000 Birds

Given how far Hokkaido is from Europe, it seems a bit surprising how many bird species wintering on this Japanese island have a name starting with “Eurasian” Or how many of these species I have also seen in my parents’ garden in Germany. Like the Eurasian Nuthatch.
