What are the best field guides for birds in North America? Many birders keep personal birding lists or life lists, documenting the species they have seen throughout their birding experiences. Analysis : The first and third paragraphs seem right to me, but the second is weaker, in my view.

A nice bird for sure, a bird with an evocative name and one that would be a lifer for many birders from North America, but not the bird we had hoped it to be. Also known as the Fairy Tern, this species breeds on Cocos Island and is very rarely seen from pelagic trips in Costa Rica. It looked like an aquatic version of a Snowy Cotinga.

Marabous occur throughout tropical and subtropical Africa from Zululand in northern South Africa right up to the arid Sahel region fringing the Sahara Desert, avoiding the closed canopy rainforest zones of central and west Africa.

Here’s a diagram, available on the Audubon site , that compares its 2000 range with its anticipated 2080 range: Only 1 percent of the bird’s breeding range remains stable between 2000 and 2080 if global warming continues on its current course.

2 – most birders have very limited experience with the variation of alba and how to distinguish this individual variation from taxonomic difference. Consider Estero Lagoon for example… In North America there are nine regular plover species, ten if you include the more vagrant Common Ringed Plover. This is an endemic breeding bird in North America and much is now being done by various federal and non-profit groups to ensure and foster its conservation. Wicked, right?
