In the grand scheme of things, this is just a small town and only one person was killed due to injuries suffered. Kelly Preheim was talking about the large numbers of Snowy Owls on the nearby National Wildlife Refuge. On Mother’s Day, an F2 Tornado hit the small town of Delmont, South Dakota. That blew my mind.

Another Nanhui trip also brought a Northern Boobook , which eBird nicely describes as a “slender brown owl with comically expressive golden eyes” While one would think that such a fierce-looking bird mainly lives off larger prey, this is not the case. It did not seem to bother the owl much though. Oh, the excitement.

It is about as yellow-rumped as the Narcissus Flycatcher – the Chinese name which translates as “white-browed flycatcher” is a bit better at highlighting the difference between the two species. Other species in the same esthetic vein (smallish, cute, colorful) included the Siberian Rubythroat.

While the species favors forested hills at moderate elevations ( source ), there are no hills at all here at Nanhui, so maybe these individuals are outcasts or just eccentrics. Chestnut-winged Cuckoo: This could be your host species! In the HBW, there are about 40 species with the word “plain” in the species name.
