There are advantages to being a “Pelican Partner” for International Bird Rescue ! First, you get to tour one of their California centers , you get a special opportunity to see a Pelican getting its final medical exam and numbered leg band, plus you get the honor of releasing one, or in my case, two of their rehabilitated pelicans!

It needs to be properly medicated and triaged. Most likely the bird will need to be medicated for a few days “just in case.”. Ok, so you’ve rescued a bird. If you have the desire to rescue and feed baby birds, become a volunteer with a federally permitted bird rehabber; we can always use the help! Find a box.

This bird was lucky to be found and rescued by a Good Samaritan in this remote area. Newer devices have been further ‘tweaked’ to fit veterinary medical needs. It seemed whoever set the trap had ‘released’ the injured eagle upon finding him, as the bird could not have freed himself without the loss of the entire foot.
