Humane Society International (HSI) called on Wednesday for a ban on the fur trade to Australia. However, the fur is passed off as sheep skin. Excerpted from the International Business Times. The call was issued after the animal rights group discovered that the fur were sourced from the raccoon dog in China, ABC Radio Australia reports.

Their claim is that what has become the customary way to take sentient nonhumans from babyhood to untimely death is not humane. No one needs to eat sentient beings, so it's not as if these "farmers" are providing a valuable service to humanity. I wouldn't do it to a dog, and I shouldn't do it to a chicken/sheep/cow/pig.

The University of Puerto Rico, an "1862" LGU founded in 1900, operates a slaughter facility killing small ruminants -- typically goats and sheep, cattle being large ruminants. We humans, herbivores like ruminants, are fine with one stomach -- we don't eat the really tough stuff like grass. Let me know if you hear the show!

Go vegan, go vegetarian, go humane or just eat less meat. If we all decide to consider animals as precious as humans, the only logical place for us is back in the jungle.

It is not unusual to drive by a farm building and see a bunch of Greater Rheas on the farm’s fenced-in pasture next to sheep or goats. This is where the fact that German birders are humans comes into play (and they sure aren’t the only ones ). Clearly, the birds had to be removed, the sooner the better.

We give them human names and provide them with the same amenities we enjoy as humans. All we do as vegans is take a reality--the reality of the sentience of cats, dogs, horses, chickens, sheep, cows, etc. We have a tendency as a society to anthropomorphize our animals, especially our pets.
