A huge spiral-horned goat got trapped in a toy rope and choked. The stingrays passed away right after an interactive display opened that let visitors put their hands on them. A hippo passed away following a long, horrible transfer from another zoo. Over forty stingrays died following somebody messing up the oxygen levels in the tank.

Chamois is an agile goat-antelope with short hooked horns, found in mountainous areas of Europe from Spain to the Caucasus. I also put it to a worthy first field test on December 29th during a successful twitch of an Arctic Diver that had turned up at a small lake right next to Heidleberg.

Before coming to Costa Rica on a permanent basis, I knew and accepted that there would be some things I would obviously miss right away (like the DiCamillo bakery , Viola’s subs, family, and friends), and unforeseen aspects of life later on. Here we find two of the most interesting members of the family, the Crested Moa , unique of course for the shaggy crest on its head, and the mountain-goat-like Upland Moa. Interestingly, Black-winged Stilts display laterality – that is, they preferentially use one eye (the right one) to find prey. Also, pecks that followed right-eye detection were more likely to be successful than pecks that followed left-eye detection, as evinced by the occurrence of swallowing after pecking ( source ).
