From the Seattle PI: The killing of about seven elk cornered in a farm pasture in eastern Skagit County has spurred state officials to close the elk archery season in the area and angered others who either witnessed or heard about the killings. Even other hunters were disgusted: "How can you call that hunting?"

Some Birding News about Birders in Costa Rica

Birding Around the Farm

As mentioned in my previous post , we were hosted for an afternoon session at Jonathan ‘s farm. Coming off a high from our morning boat ride, excitement was high as we pulled into the farm compound. On the slow crawl into the farm, the first sighting was a small group of Green Ibis – a new species for me.

Best Bird of the Weekend (Fourth of July 2016)

Pretty swanky, right? But if I have to pick a living bird, American Kestrels hunting along farm roads always work for me. Speaking of summer, the coolest birds I saw this weekend were on the festive curtains (pictured above) in my son’s new cabin at sleepaway camp in the Finger Lakes.
