Summer Birding at Conboy Lake NWR

The namesake “lake” generally only exists when there is enough runoff during the spring, as the area was extensively modified for farming years ago. Fish and Wildlife Service cannot effectively restore the lake or other natural hydrology. There were several conspicuous groups of Hairy Woodpeckers, including this female.

Week 21: Our last week in Scotland

I found this little grouping of Guillemots, with parents, babies and even an egg. The Bellymac Farm turned out to be the location that the birds choose to gather in. What started as a small group of birds, with the hope they would make it on their own, is now a very strong breeding population.
