In case you are wondering if I mistook an out of focus cow for a bittern, look just below and left of center. Eclipsing all that was seen previously on the trip (for me at least) was this breeding plumage Stripe-backed Bittern. No bitterns have ever been seen on Tobago, but Trinidad has three. American Flamingo.

Swooping Swallow-tailed Kites and a variety of warblers, brush-finches, seedeaters, and ovenbirds, not to mention exquisite non-avian fauna and flora (including a rampaging cow!), completed the experience. The experience, as magical as it was, feels far from complete. The illustrious 89 Butterfly ( Diaethria euclides phlogea ).

The Nikon’s BATV crew flew in to Paramaribo where we were graciously hosted at the luxurious Hotel Krasnapolsky for a night so that we could experience the culture and fun of the capital city. The first sounded like a cross between a hoarse cat and a cow in distress. We had a fantastic experience watching these little toucanets.

I did go to Babies-R-Us for some odds and ends and here's the Animal Person-related experience. I chose a cow for Sky's first stuffed animal, and I hope that she will grow up to honor and respect the lives of cows the same way she will honor and respect the lives of greyhounds. Animals are all over the place at Babies-R-Us.

Cats are slaves to no one, at least according to their reputation, which in my experience holds true. We don't say we hate cows. And mentally competent people slice the throats of flailing cows hanging by one leg. And people who want to kill those they cannot control scare me. In fact we say we love them.

What an amazing experience! But around a slight bend in the road two Lesser Ground-Cuckoos started calling back and forth to each other on either side of the road. We were standing in the middle of two Lesser Ground-Cuckoos calling within five meters of us. Now to see it; this would be the chance!

I repeat: If you eat meat (I'd say: products that come from animals) , you cannot logically find it morally or ethically repugnant to eat a particular meat (i.e., The theory is sound.

The problem with that statement is it's not as if farmers are searching "the wild" for cows, pigs, chicken and fish, plucking them from their homes, and plopping them on a farm to live out their (shortened) lives prior to slaughter. The choice isn't the wild or the farm.

The conclusion I'm left making is that the person saying "Because it tastes good" thinks that it's funny that a sentient being was raped (in the case of cows), mutilated (chickens, pigs and others) and slaughtered (everyone) because people find them tasty.

Since the male offspring of dairy cows don't produce milk, they are sold to veal farms, where they are permanently confined in veal crates that prevent them from moving or turning around. I replaced cow's milk with soy milk. These birds are some of the most abused animals in agriculture. That's right, free!
