Canada Geese are a nuisance. It is not the fault of Canada Geese that they have become a trash bird. Blame human intervention in the form of breeding programs so that there would be more to hunt. They poop everywhere, they are far too common, they take down airplanes. That is really a shame. It’s not my fault!

Today, more than 40 animal advocacy organizations across Canada praised Air Canada for its recent decision to stop shipping non-human primates into the country for use in research laboratories. Airlines in Canada must obtain approval from the CTA to revise their shipping guidelines.

Canadian fisheries ministry representative Garry Stenson said the hunt “is humane, well regulated and sustainable” and that new rules for the hunt were under review to strengthen inspections, monitoring and enforcement of animal welfare rules.

Bay-breasted Warblers, Blackburnian Warblers, Canada Warblers, and Red-eyed Vireos. Of the warblers that fly over Costa Rica, Bay-breasteds, Blackburnians, and Canadas all move through in huge numbers. Many of the Blackburnians and Canadas have already flown over, pretty soon, we hope to be inundated with Bay-breasteds.

Despite their population increases, Nenes will probably need human help to survive far into the future, and they remain the world’s rarest goose. Unlike other geese, Nenes prefer walking to swimming.

There are many more factors than I imagined: compass errors, wind drift, overshooting, extreme weather and irruptions, natural dispersal, and human-driven vagrancy. Some birders may want to carefully read the chapter on human-driven vagrancy, which takes up the question of ship-assisted vagrancy. Next time, I’ll know why.

The human toll has been and continues to be staggering. To the extent there is one, the primary animating principle appears to be that the ABA Area includes all of the United States and Canada. Most residents are still without electricity and there was extensive damage to homes, buildings, and public infrastructure.

This article reaffirms my belief that it's more humane to slaughter horses in the US than to ship them for slaughter to Canada or Mexico. I don't like it either way, but one is better than the other for sure.

Despite that, a Quebec-based seal fur company has begun championing Pibarot's hypothesis, seeing the research as a buoy for Canada's beleaguered seal harvest.

The bold gray-and-white birds know what humans are good for and that is as a source of food! Gray Jays are resident in the boreal forest from Alaska south as far as northern California, and across Canada to Labrador, which might account for another of their monikers, Canada Jay.

We had been at sea for 5 days and 5 nights, over 100 miles off shore, sailing non-stop from the USA-Canada border to San Francisco. While I have only seen this behavior a couple of times, the night herons do share at similar response with humans, with regard to a very hot day. One of these is my very first Black-crowned Night Heron.

OK, that is extreme, but what’s really slicing my Twinkie right now is an article from the Ottawa Citizen about a report from the journal Wildlife Research which projects that 22 million birds die across Canada every year after flying into windows of residential homes and that yards with feeders seemed to have more collisions.
