These isles of Saint Giles are beaten tirelessly by the wind from the open ocean, the hardy vegetation present is gnarled and contorted. Both Brown and Red-footed Boobies actively breed on Little Tobago as well as Saint Giles.

I have followed the breeding activity of the Pied Oystercatchers in Broome along Cable Beach since July 2000 when I found the first nest site and the birds have continued to use the same territories, though there have been some partner changes. I can also monitor any movement along the coast during the year when they are no longer breeding.

Another cool fact was learning that the Barn Swallows has started to breed in South America since the 80s. This is quite a remarkable fact if one thinks that this is the only (and first to do this) migratory bird to change its breeding and migratory habits. Now we were in Finca Tres Equis, a family cocoa farm (if I understood well, it translates as Triple X Farm) and a private reserve of over 300 hectares, of which more than 70 percent is a forest, representing part of a Jaguar corridor. Young birds, at least in captivity, become mature after 5 years and start breeding after 6 or 7 years.

Burrowing Owls have been present at our school camera location since at least 1984. The colony has grown supporting up to 3 pairs of owls, all breeding at once! The colony has numbered 17 at one point and fledged as many as 9 owlets during the normal breeding season. One of the owls with a frog after a rainstorm.

Once we had both developed blisters we had the perfect excuse to go and visit a local freshwater clay-pan and check on the bird life present. Firstly, shorebirds present a significant ID challenge. Filming the plovers of Estero Lagoon Plovers are a significant part of the shorebird family, comprising 66 species worldwide.
