It has been twelve weeks now since the first pair of Pied Oystercatchers attempted to breed along the stretch of beach that we survey and as with each year there have been setbacks. There was a long stretch of beach that did not have a breeding pair, but it was in amongst the vehicles and nudists that frequent the area at this time of year.

In 2008, with my family decided to build the Limneo Lodge , a small accommodation with only 9 rooms. In the next year I visited the British Birdfair for the first time, which turned out to be the experience that changed my life. Next to them, Whiskered and Black Terns nest on floating leaves of White Water-lilies.

Red-billed Curassow ( Crax blumenbachii ), a large, ground-dwelling bird belonging to the same family as the more familiar Plain Chachalaca of southern Texas, was never a very widespread species. I am within one of Florida’s sub-tropical zones, and my birding experiences have expanded, with life birds galore. The area near the boardwalk was full of families and beach-goers, swimming in the emerald green water or relaxing in multi-colored beach chairs.

Audubon Associate Naturalist, have led this tour many times, through tornados, droughts, questionable restaurants, and, sadly, the advent of fracking, and every one of my friends who has participated over the years has raved about the experience and the birds (in fact, one member of our group was on his third or fourth trip, I lost count).
