Isla Isabel – Mexico’s Galapagos

It was made a National Park in the 1980s and is a major breeding and nesting area for over 30,000 seabirds. One of the sheltered bays on Isla Isabel. Lastly, due to its previous inaccessibility to humans and the absence of natural predators, the wildlife is bizarrely unafraid of humans, allowing for a truly unforgettable experience.

A Pied Oystercatcher family

It has been twelve weeks now since the first pair of Pied Oystercatchers attempted to breed along the stretch of beach that we survey and as with each year there have been setbacks. There was a long stretch of beach that did not have a breeding pair, but it was in amongst the vehicles and nudists that frequent the area at this time of year.

This time we decided to make use of the Rest Area and use the shelter and shade in case of a torrential downpour, which had occurred earlier in the day.
