2018 proved to be one of my best birding years ever. In addition to spotting exciting new species in Florida, including the rare Snail Kite, travel across the country brought me into contact with birds in Oregon, California, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alabama, and more. I did not fall into that category.

Last week, we quite impulsively jumped in a rental car and drove 2600 miles round trip to south Texas to pick up 34 new species. It seems his family of 5, had rented a condo that sleeps 8, at Atlantis Resort, on Paradise Island, in the Bahamas. Despite all this, we did manage to get nearly 20 new birds for the list.

But this winter I played it safe and booked a weekend away to a place that should not have a freak ice storm: the Rio Grande Valley in south Texas where I can grab great looks at birds like Crested Caracaras. The list can go on for great birding spots in RGV ( Laguna Atascosa anyone?)

It is a common bird of humid, lowland forest in Central and South America where it is usually found in the lower storey. It belongs to the Parulidae family, but along with the rest of the Basileuterus genus is non-migratory. The Argentinian birds come from the B.c. This is a Golden-crowned Warbler , Basileuterus cucilivorus.

Namibia’s 2,1 million people are spread over an incredible 318,696 sq mi (nearly 20% larger land area than Texas). Over 700 bird species occur in Namibia, many of them range-restricted and highly desirable southern arid zone species. This family group is performing their loud croaking territorial calls.

Few American birds have the publicity problems of the titmouse. A bird in the genus Baeolophus is neither a mouse nor…the other thing. You find them in the south from Florida to Texas and down into Mexico, occasionally as far north as the Carolinas in the east and up the Mississippi River as far north as Illinois.
