Fortunately, China itself has a large number of bird species and habitats. According to a Wikipedia entry, China has 1413 bird species – though strangely, another list found online, purportedly based on Birdlife International, claims only 1288 species. One of my target species for the trip was Indian Blue Robin.

Instead, they usually just describe species seen at a specific location, with the vague notion that these descriptions might be interesting to other birders. It looks quite distinct compared to some of the other recently discovered species. I guess my sympathy is more with the Plain Bunting, if such a species existed.

A hippo passed away following a long, horrible transfer from another zoo. Woodyer wanted Lanthier to quit and for the zoo’s accreditation to be taken away.

University campus at Im Neuenheimer Feld, particularly in the north (turn off Berliner Straße and into the street Im Neuenheimer Feld) and south (park at the zoo, see below).

The Truth Is Out There

Recently a Fork-tailed Flycatcher was reported from a park in San Francisco, a long ways away from its home in Central and South America. Superficially similar to Fork-tailed Flycatcher, especially if you don’t know that this species exists! This bird was photographed a few years ago in Connecticut, by Corey Finger.
