I like this opinion piece from the Christian Science Monitor which calls for an "Endangered Species Hour." It's in response to the pathetic CITES conference which basically screwed marine animal protection. But jobs that depend on harvesting endangered species will quickly disappear if those species are not protected.

Birding Nanhui, Shanghai in November 2021

Their strong presence here at Nanhui in combination with their highly threatened status should be a good argument to protect Nanhui better. Apparently, there are no Lesser Scaup around here, so even I can be fairly confident to get this species identification right. Can’t say I heard this though.
