Not so with our visit to Bosque de Apache NWR in southern New Mexico. Much like my visit to Malheur NWR, the actual wet Land areas are flooded once the cooperative farming is over. The second half of the week was spent near the town of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. eBird.org submissions – 312. US species – 243.

Horse Slaughterhouse Proposed in New Mexico

This article reaffirms my belief that it's more humane to slaughter horses in the US than to ship them for slaughter to Canada or Mexico. I don't like it either way, but one is better than the other for sure.

Looking for Lost Warblers at Parque Rio Loro, Costa Rica

This cheerful little bird is very common in second growth and coffee farms of the Central Valley. In fact, the first one I ever saw was a wintering bird in Mexico. This large and in charge stunning purple bird was the most common hummingbird at the site. Yes, you read that right. We got tired of looking at them.
