Well, they were all memorable, but these two involve subjects people have asked about without fail—the Taj Mahal and Tigers. Target: Tigers. Our local Ranthambhore guide told us that a tiger had been located on our route.

That is unfortunate because the Tiger Warbler * is one wood-warbler worth watching. The binomial Dendorica tigrina translates into Tiger Warbler which is reflected in the common name in Spanish ( Reinita Tigrina ), French ( Paruline tigrée ), German ( Tigerwaldsänger ) and other languages.

Perhaps the best experience of the two days I spend offshore was not a bird, but a mammal. As it was when a small pod of Gervais’ Beaked Whales, small whales that look like bulked up Bottlenosed Dolphins tolerated our approach and allowed us to have a surreal experience with this mysterious marine mammal.

Volunteering provides a very different experience to tourism though. In Hawaii I stood on a beach as albatrosses fledged and Tiger Sharks prowled for the less successful ones. And come the new year I’ll be telling you all about my experiences this time around. In the Bahamas I swam in a pod of feeding dolphins.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. I was practically right next to the two in this photo (and, note the Rufescent Tiger-heron photobomb). It was one of those magic experiences when you are so absorbed you forget you have a camera.

In conclusion, an experience that will put me off buying anything from that company ever. In Singapore, a Tiger Shrike was observed casting a pellet after eating a large scarab beetle. A hard-working Chinese Blackbird almost certainly already incubating its second brood is certainly not a target customer for a La-Z-Boy.

As we gazed upwards at those backlit migratory warblers, I noticed a Bare-throated Tiger-Heron … nesting! Still, this sort of wildlife experience is available in pretty much any Mexican city. It was by far my best (and longest) view of this species. Two other birds, both residents, surprised us. And yet, there it was.

As she continued her monologue about these cats, the Wildcat cautiously walked in our direction, never taking its eyes off of us, stiff-legged, ears motionless, striped like a standard “tiger” domestic cat but entirely in grays. He also had tigers, cougars, and some other animals. That was one of his cats.

Despite claims to the contrary, the Tiger Shrike was not named after a German tank. Not many people may know this, but there is a feline related to the domestic cat that is also named tiger – that one is the namesake of the Tiger Shrike. She said no, it was just that nobody else ever wanted to use that color).

The third shrike seen in Shanghai this month was the Tiger Shrike. The young sometimes do not get taken seriously by the adults – something that this juvenile Oriental Dollarbird probably experiences on a daily basis.
