So, I birded India, land of Indian Peafowl , Saag Paneer (my favorite Indian dish) and Tigers. Well, they were all memorable, but these two involve subjects people have asked about without fail—the Taj Mahal and Tigers. Target: Tigers. Our local Ranthambhore guide told us that a tiger had been located on our route.

Most of all, the time and effort is worth it when we see new birds, surpass our goals, and when we share those trying, challenging, exuberant and triumphant times with others because the birding party is always better, always stronger, when you you can enjoy the experience with like-minded souls. In conclusion, an experience that will put me off buying anything from that company ever. When there are no animals around to sit on, Cattle Egrets sometimes sit on trees, even though they frequently b h about the trees’ low speed and inability to stir up insects. It is sometimes necessary to find food though.

’ They are challenging to find, frustrating to photograph, and the antbird experience often includes heat and humidity, mud and bugs. I was practically right next to the two in this photo (and, note the Rufescent Tiger-heron photobomb). It was one of those magic experiences when you are so absorbed you forget you have a camera.

The third shrike seen in Shanghai this month was the Tiger Shrike. Heron/Egret medley (yes, I know medleys suck, but without the aural component, they might just be ok): Black-crowned Night-heron … … Cattle Egret … … Chinese Pond Heron. Even in my compound, they seem to have quite a stable presence now.
