Not just birds, but also plants (Colombia boast the most orchid species, too), insects, primates, reptiles. It’s an incredible experience to see these cotton balls on stilts as they hop out from the dense mountain forest underbrush and dance around in front of you. The list goes on and on and on. Next time, I suppose.

It brings mammals, and frogs in profusion, and reptiles, and insects. It was the perfect experience, the guide had astonishing eyes and found things we would have passed over if we had been alone. We found some more sleeping birds, lots of frogs, and a Lesser Mousedeer – a new species for me! Or nothing big at least.

I new him because we enlisted his Dryfus Lion and one of his tigers to carry out experiments with bones (this is something archaeologists do). And for rodents and reptiles as well. On a single trip I have seen four species of turtle, which must be my all time high in one day. Unfortunately, I have not managed a decent photograph of a Snapping Turtle in New Jersey yet, so you will have to be happy with shots of only three of the species I have spotted.
