We had several birds drop in right in front of us during the afternoon. The Black-necked Storks were busy fishing as were the Gull-billed Terns and White-bellied Sea-Eagles. I am scoping Great Cormorants roosting in their colony in the (now dry) flooded forest, there is one… eagle to the right of them. I am right, Kostas confirms, it is a Greater Spotted Eagle. The area is accessible from several points off the Gaj – Dubovac road. I was only able to find two South African owls, the first was the tiny Pearl-spotted Owlet. This is one of a pair of Verraux’s Eagle-owls. On the very last day, this one landed right near our house. I was fortunate enough to photograph lots of birds of prey, from large eagles down to small little kites.

This ‘road’ is dirt and gravel, bisects the cove right through this open valley, and is quite narrow. Chances are quite good to see Eastern Bluebirds along the fences; Red-tailed , Red-shouldered , Broad-winged , and Cooper’s Hawks in the air: Bald and Golden Eagles (in the fall); and Northern Harriers (in winter).
