About 10 million dogs in China are killed for their fur, prompting an animal rights group to seek a ban on fur trade to Australia. However, the fur is passed off as sheep skin.

None of my neighbors have cats and I'm only aware of one dog owner blocks away. We do have a possum and a raccoon that live somewhere on the property. I have never once seen a cat anywhere in my neighborhood. or even this city for that matter. And I have found one small dead garden snake in the street.

According to this Associated Press story, if you are wearing a Sean John jacket with fur trim purchased from Macy's, that trim might have come from a dog indigenous to Asia known as a "raccoon dog." But when HSUS purchased several of these jackets, the jackets arrived bearing the labels "Made in China" and "genuine raccoon fur."

I have a dog, cats (domestic and feral), birds raccoons, hawks, owls, coyotes, foxes, bunnies and mice…they all share the yard and the woods. Cats are a breathing warm blooded creature like so many others. They did not ask to be put where they are nor should they be treated like a plague.

By building nests out over the swamp, the birds benefit from the protection offered by the alligators in deterring predators such as raccoons and snakes. Snowy Egrets were also showing off their breeding colours and Wood Storks were carrying small branches to add to precarious platforms that will soon have to serve as nests.
