Somehow, Steller’s Sea Eagle manages to look both fierce and slightly cartoonish. Back to the eagle. Even the review has some interesting information – for example, a major predator of eagle nests is the Brown Bear. They also estimate between 2115 and 2645 individuals traveled to see the eagle.

And that confusion, as often as not, results in someone calling something an eagle when it is not an eagle. People have heard of eagles. Hence, people are all the time telling me they saw eagles.

Acheron Delta, Greece: Hell is Closed for Renovation

I can hear the mooing of cows, interrupted by gunshots, while two scared flocks of ducks fly above the delta. The cows, let free to walk to the nearest wet meadows, are coming in my direction. Around me is a wet meadow used by the cows whose path I dared to cross. High ’tsi-tsi-tsi’ and one turquoise Common Kingfisher flies by.

Birding Jonuta Road, in Tabasco, Mexico

I told Rolando I didn’t feel I was really in Tabasco, because I had yet to see a cow standing in water. Then we saw a cow, standing in water. Here in Mexico, they call Ospreys “Fishing Eagles” But Tabasco has a second bird of prey that fishes. The road travels almost entirely through marshy pasturelands.

Farther on along the levee, there was a huge White-tailed Eagle standing on a big, old poplar. The local levee warden sometimes shepherds his cows here, and the eagle would stand right above him, giving him no second glance. I am a stranger in his realm.

I pass the first of several dead cows. There was a Short-toed Eagle ahead, taking flight to be replaced by another ST Eagle. Two more dead cows later, I reached the southernmost corner of the lake with its mudbars, reedbeds and a few artificial rocky islets. Lesser Kestrel. These two were only the first of several I saw.
