While no one questions the religious sincerity of Northern Arapaho tribal members, spokesmen for some conservation and animal rights groups question why the tribe can't meet its religious needs without killing wild eagles. The Northern Arapaho share the Wind River Indian Reservation in central Wyoming with the Eastern Shoshone Tribe.

Suddenly in the middle of the soybean fields there was a group of Lesser Rheas that were approaching the road. We stopped and observed this first group of adult Rheas that seemed quite comfortable with us and the road traffic. Moments later we spotted a second group of 20 adult and young Rheas running across the field.

There is one historical record in eBird, representing a specimen collected by Fermin Z. Our group travels into the wetlands of the San Tomás reserve by boat (small, wooden boats masterfully steered by local workers) to a small platform on the edge of the channel where we make a semicircle and wait. The wren comes in! Then back again.

Wahlberg travelled even more extensively and amassed a huge bird collection. Woodward’s Barbet belongs to a group of barbets known as Green Barbets.

The genus is Cyanoramphus , and they are sometimes known collectively as the kakariki (literally little kaka). The kakariki are an odd group of parakeets, particularly in terms of their distribution. Compared to that of say the Collared Kingfisher , for example, it would hardly raise an eyebrow.

In terms of breeding behavior, starlings are a diversified group – some use helpers, others do not. Superb Starlings avoid this when using helpers, much like rich people presumably reducing the stress of raising kids by hiring a couple of nannies. But that is the environment they survive in, get grants, get professorships, etc.
