After my post about collecting two weeks ago I received a bit of feedback, some positive, some negative, and I’ve been mulling it over with the intention of writing about some of the issues that could be considered the root cause of the disagreement. You see, the bird was collected for scientific study. How it raised its chicks?

I put it in a small box for several hours, where it appeared to recover, but studies have shown that internal injuries from a strike usually kill the bird. FLAP is the Fatal Light Awareness Program, located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, and this is how they raise awareness. ©2012 Donna L.

A federal government decision to allow a Wyoming tribe to kill two bald eagles for a religious ceremony is a victory for American Indian sovereignty as well as for long-suppressed religious freedoms, the tribe says. The Northern Arapaho decline to say specifically what they will do with the eagles the federal permit allows them to kill.

You may not realize it when you look at those bizarre looking waders with the massive bills and the vacant expression, but you’re looking at a group of birds that has inspired humankind for literal centuries. The group has a worldwide distribution; 28 species living and two additional extinct. White-faced Ibis , Plegadis chihi.

Delegorgue’s main ornithological contribution was collecting Delegorgue’s Pigeon in the now vanished forests of Durban, but besides this he had little significant input. Wahlberg travelled even more extensively and amassed a huge bird collection. Woodward’s Barbet belongs to a group of barbets known as Green Barbets.

Johnson is collecting myths about owls from cultures around the world and is also presiding over a 12-year Burrowing Owl Project that seeks to collect DNA samples, vocalizations, morphological data and map locations for every Burrowing Owl subspecies the world over. In some ways, this is a puzzling chapter. They are also hunted.

This bird was in serious trouble by the mid-19th century due to the adults being killed for food and young being taken for pets. In fact, Juan Gundlach collected a number of birds from the a flock that regularly came to feed in a group of trees at the town of Zarabanda just outside the modern day boundaries of Cienaga de Zapata National Park.
