Some wild Grey Ducks from the Northern Territory ( GDW45 Creative Commons ). Indeed, 30,000 mallards were released across the entire nation.

After a very good Wet Season with substantially more rain than normal over the first few months of 2017 the land was flooded and a huge variety of birds arrived in the Broome area to take advantage of the ideal conditions for breeding. Podicipediformes, aka Grebes, are freshwater diving duckish birds that are not ducks. Twenty two species are distributed among six genera, depending on what happens to be extinct, and for the most part one grebe is like another. This makes Grebes vulnerable to climate change and the predation of invasive species.

Among birds the Egyptian Vulture uses rocks to crack Ostrich eggs, the New Caledonian Crow and Woodpecker Finch (one of several Darwin Finches of the Galapagos Islands), uses sticks to extract grubs from inside a branch. This is similar to the fact that all birds, even first time breeders within a species build identical nests.

The press material says it covers over 800 species, so you know I had to do a count.

Flock after flock of blackbirds, ducks, geese, raptors flapping their way north. The birds also need it because this is when they build nests and breed. As the local birds get into breeding mode, some others take advantage of the nesting to feed broods of their own. It’s a good day to be outside with binoculars.
