A Fierce Cartoon Bird: Steller’s Sea Eagle on Hokkaido

10,000 Birds

Maybe the latter is because the bird is so plump, or maybe it is because (at least to me) the head looks like it has been created by a somewhat amateurish wood carver. Another danger to the species comes from lead poisoning as they eat the carcasses of deer killed by hunters ( source ).

How many birds are killed by windmills and other green energy projects?

10,000 Birds

However, in this post, I’d like to lay out the basic numbers as we pretend to know them about overall bird mortality, human related causes of mortality, and somewhere in there I’ll note that the number of birds that are killed by windmills is so small that it says “zero” on my pie chart.

The chapter titles of Feather Trails: A Journey of Discovery Among Endangered Birds represent both ends of the spectrum: “A World Full of Poisons,” “Malaria,” “Forest Intruders,” “Lead Shock,” “Shot.” Coyotes took carrion from young Condors and then killed the weakest ones.

Birding the Kruger Park (5): Pafuri area part 1

10,000 Birds

Pafuri lies in the northernmost part of the Kruger National Park and is described as “some of the most potentially productive birding territory in South Africa” on the SANParks website. Jameson’s Firefinch is a beautiful small bird named for what was probably a very bad person, James Sligo Jameson. ” (HBW).
