Birding in a Refinery

10,000 Birds

Perhaps a little more shock-inducing and paradoxical than concepts of birding at sewage ponds or graveyards, an oil refinery seems to be the antithesis of a desirable place for a birder. From Yellow-hooded Blackbirds to Purple and Common Gallinules , there are almost too many birds to focus on!

Birding Villahermosa’s Urban Parks

10,000 Birds

So Eduardo set aside the afternoon to show me some of the city, and take me birding in two city parks. Being a westerner — raised in California, and now living in western Mexico — I was perhaps most excited about the migratory birds that breed in eastern North America. Great July Birding in Queens

10,000 Birds

July in New York City is generally an unpleasant experience. Not only that, but the birding is typically not great either. But this July has been magnificent for birds in Queens. Now that’s a nice bird to see! What a bird for Queens! But logic failed and I had to admit defeat.
