Best Bird of the Weekend (Last of September 2021)

Every fall weekend bears a bite of bittersweet wonder around here. I finally tracked down Black-bellied Plover , a shorebird species that had been eluding me for the county for years, plus a bonus bird in the form of a very infrequent Forster’s Tern hobnobbing with the usual Caspians. Birding Dulan County, Qinghai

Given that it is hard to mention one of my favorite bands, the Mountain Goats, in a birding blog, these photos of blue sheep are probably the best opportunity I will ever get. According to the HBW, based on strong morphological, ecological, and genetic differences, this is likely to be a distinct species altogether. Blue Sheep.

While I didn’t notice any Neotropical migrants this weekend, I was pleased to spot a Tufted Titmouse , a species I tend to miss during winter. Best Bird of the Weekend (First of 2018)

Your 2018 year lists, whether you tally them or not, have already begun to populate, silently bearing witness to your commitment to bird looking or lack thereof. I enjoyed my first wave of feeder birds for the year, with Tufted Titmouse winning BBOTW honors only because that species appears less frequently than my other local denizens.
