Despite mostly guiding them, I still somehow managed to see a European Badger sitting and watching me back for several seconds, before it slipped into bushes and quite a few White-tailed Eagles , e.g. four in just one morning. It is highly likely that the Glossy Ibis will have a significant breeding colony close by, not dissimilar to 2017. The Black-shouldered Kites were still in the area and also a White-bellied Sea Eagle. Glossy Ibis were by far the dominant species and we observed hundreds of them in flight as we crossed Roebuck Plains.

It is of course an unknown factor how often the Grey-headed Lapwing arrives in Australia and does not even get noticed, but for 2017 it was observed in Halls Creek in the Kimberley and we were able to spend a few hours enjoying its presence! Another constant problem to be aware of when you are travelling these highways with constant distractions like Wedge-tailed Eagles standing on carcasses are the stray cattle. Lesser Spotted Eagles breed regularly with around 100 pairs in Germany, but unless you know where the territories are you are unlikely to see them.
