Bird of the Year?

I began recording my bird sightings with photographs in late 2009, and since then I have seen (or at least heard) a fair proportion of species recorded within my home country of Trinidad & Tobago. Of course, a major factor in this decision rests in its status as a resident species. Well, let me explain. What a gorgeous bird!

During the final stages of the Pan-European bird-atlassing work last year, computer models of Serbian ranges for some 150 bird species were produced for the first time ever. New target species for the next spring field trip. New target species for the next spring field trip. The consequences were amusing.

I find the information helpful and insightful, as it can shed light on why some species were or were not seen on that trip. A: I don’t use analytics software or collect any user data, but I do keep my eye on the number of weather requests which generally hovers around several hundred a day.

Brown-headed Thrush

In my case it is because I had only ever seen one, many years before, but had lost my details of the trip, so it never got entered when I crossed from my original wildlife-listing software to eBird. A long search failed to refind the thrush, so I moved on, happy enough, but less than elated.

While our binoculars and scopes have limited magnification, the use of software allows us to magnify to any extent. Magnification.- This is a fantastic feature of digital photography.
