In 1954, with stringent controls on the grazing of domestic animals, a herd of 20 Desert Bighorn Sheep were re-introduced and have flourished. This small group of Pronghorn Antelope were right at the refuge entrance.

The call was issued after the animal rights group discovered that the fur were sourced from the raccoon dog in China, ABC Radio Australia reports. About 10 million dogs in China are killed for their fur, prompting an animal rights group to seek a ban on fur trade to Australia. However, the fur is passed off as sheep skin.

One raft of 20+ Mallards swims by the bank, right in front of jackals, careless like if they were just two sheep! They are sitting in the wet grass at the edge of the water, observing the bird movements around them. I am thrilled: this is more than just birding, this is a full-scale safari!

A Blue-throated Hummingbird just flew right past us, and over to one of the feeders. When the Coopers Hawk blew thru the yard looking for a meal, it just froze, and stayed right there for nearly 5 minutes, plenty of time for me to approach, and get this picture. That is our 5th wheel on the right corner. 1 Gila Woodpecker.

We had Elk right in our camp with us every day. The hardest image to get is always the Bighorn Sheep, so I am pretty happy with this shot! Pronghorn Antelope are about as common as Jackrabbits throughout Wyoming, but this guy walked right by me one morning. Here are the rest of the animals that we did see.

Someone entered the premises of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum , cut the lock on the bighorn sheep exhibit, and shot the male bighorn to death. Then—and here's the grisly part—the assailant cut the sheep's head off. Needless to say, animal-rights and other groups are up in arms. There was a senseless killing last night.
